What it costs to convert carpet stairs to oak or walnut treads in Vaughan, Markham, Milton, and Toronto, and what blows the number up.
The typical flight
A straight 13-step builder stair, carpet pulled, solid oak treads, painted or oak risers, matching nosing at the landing: most GTA jobs land between $5,000 and $11,000 installed before railings and before HST. Open sides, winders, and walnut move it up.
What is not a retread
If the stringers flex, if the rise is already illegal, or if someone glued 3/4-inch leftover flooring onto 5/8-inch treads last decade, this is a rebuild. Green Hardwood will say so on the site visit. A cheap cap on a bad structure is how you buy the stair twice.
