Why the nosing, reducer, and landing detail make or break a hardwood stair and a hardwood install.
The trip lives at the landing
A 3/4-inch floor meeting a thinner tread without a proper nosing is a trip. A flush vent sitting one millimetre high is a trip. These are the details inspectors and ankles both find.
One species through the change of plane
The landing board, the nosing, and the first tread should be the same mill run when possible. Mixed leftover is how you get three oaks that all claim to be 'natural.'
