Should I put a runner on new hardwood stairs?
A runner is a legitimate choice — it quiets the flight and adds grip for pets and older family members — and it changes the build. Treads under a runner still need a finished reveal at both edges, and the nosing profile still has to meet Ontario Building Code whether carpet covers it or not. Tell us before we mill: a stair built for a runner is detailed differently from a stair built to be seen.
